At Brookfields, we recognise that screens are now a big part of everyday life. Technology can bring many benefits, but we also know that spending too much time on screens can impact sleep, physical activity, communication, wellbeing and family time.
The launch of this project has been informed by the findings of a detailed parent survey, which highlighted both the importance of technology in family life and the challenges many families face in managing children's screen use. Parents told us that they would welcome practical support, opportunities to share experiences, and ideas for helping children engage in a wider range of activities away from screens. Their feedback has shaped the development of this project and ensured that it reflects the real experiences and needs of our school community.
That's why we are launching a long-term Screen Time Project to support families in finding a healthy balance. Working together with parents, carers and pupils, we will explore practical ways to reduce screen time and increase opportunities for play, creativity, social interaction and real-world experiences.
Throughout the project we will be sharing a range of resources and opportunities, including:
- Parent workshops and training sessions on managing screen use and building healthy digital habits.
- Mini family challenges and projects designed to encourage screen-free activities at home.
- Ideas and inspiration for alternative activities that are fun, accessible and engaging for children of all ages and abilities.
- Top tips from parents and carers, sharing what has worked well in their own homes.
- Research, guidance and practical strategies to help families make informed decisions about screen use.
- Celebrations and success stories from families taking part in the project.
Our aim is not to remove technology completely, but to help children and families develop a positive, balanced relationship with screens. By working together, learning from one another and sharing practical solutions, we hope to create lasting changes that support children's wellbeing, learning and family life.
We look forward to starting this journey with our families and building a community of support around this important issue. Together, we can make small changes that lead to a big difference.
